On November 13th at 10:00 local time, the 18th Dubai Air Show, which lasted for 5 days, officially launched at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. On the first day of the exhibition, more than 200 aircraft have been sold, with a transaction value approaching 100 billion US dollars.
According to the organizers, the scale of this year's air show exceeds that of any previous one, attracting over 95 countries and regions, over 1400 world-class exhibitors to participate, including world-class exhibitors such as Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, and EDGE. Among them, more than 400 exhibitors are participating for the first time, focusing on areas such as aerospace transportation, sustainable development, and cutting-edge technology.
The most eye-catching transaction among them is the huge purchase order of wide-body aircraft from Boeing by Emirates Airlines and Flydubai. These two companies announced that these two orders will reach $52 billion and $11 billion respectively, with Emirates Airlines purchasing 55 777-9, 35 777-8, and 5 787 Dreamliner aircraft, and Dubai Airlines purchasing 30 787-9 wide body aircraft.
According to convention, Boeing generally offers a significant discount percentage for large orders.
Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Civil Aircraft Group, stated that 2023 looks like the "year of wide-body aircraft orders".
In addition, airlines from Türkiye, Egypt and other countries also reached a number of transactions at the exhibition, specifically:
SunExpress, a joint venture between Türkiye Airlines and Lufthansa Airlines, committed to purchase up to 90 (45+45) single aisle aircraft from Boeing. This agreement includes 28 737-8 and 17 737-10 aircraft, as well as a maximum of 45 737 MAX aircraft;
Egypt Airlines has signed a lease agreement with an aviation leasing company for 18 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft;
Royal Jordanian Airlines has ordered four 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft to expand its wide body aircraft fleet, and with the addition of two previously ordered 787-9 aircraft, the total number of 787-9 aircraft in the company's fleet has reached six;
Royal Moroccan Airlines has purchased two 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft;
Latvia's Baltic Airlines has ordered 30 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with an additional 20 urgently needed to choose from;
The Tawazun Committee, the defense and security procurement agency of the UAE Ministry of Defense, Abu Dhabi Police, and Security Agency, had already signed an agreement of 4.7 billion dirhams (approximately 1.28 billion US dollars) on its first day of operation.
Driven by strong orders, Boeing, with a market value of hundreds of billions of dollars, rose by over 5% after opening on Monday, and its current increase remains around 4%.
Boeing predicts that by 2042, airlines worldwide will need 42595 new aircraft, and airlines in the Middle East will need 3025-45% of which are wide body aircraft.
The exhibition lasts for five days, and it is expected that more large orders will appear in the future. Industry insiders estimate that these new orders may include purchase orders from Türkiye Airlines to Airbus, as well as purchase orders from Riyadh Air, India IndiGo Airlines and Akasa Air.
