Nanfang News (reporter/Chen Weifeng) On the morning of February 18, the first working day after the Spring Festival holiday in the the Year of the Loong, the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Government held a provincial high-quality development conference in Shenzhen. At the meeting, Tan Ranke, Chairman of ExxonMobil (China) Investment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "ExxonMobil") in China, gave a speech, stating that in the past few years, ExxonMobil and Guangdong Province have established a stable partnership, deeply understanding the efficient and professional services of governments at all levels, and promoting the smooth progress of the Huizhou ethylene project.
"Developing in Guangdong is our correct choice"
China is an important component of ExxonMobil's business growth strategy, as well as an important strategic market for ExxonMobil's high-performance new lubricants and chemical products.
"We quickly realized that Guangdong was our right choice," Tan Ranke explained. Due to Guangdong's advantages such as professional and efficient government services, complete infrastructure, friendly business environment, and high-quality local talents, ExxonMobil decided to invest over 10 billion US dollars in Guangdong to build a world-class chemical complex project.
At present, ExxonMobil's Huizhou Ethylene Phase I project in the Daya Bay Petrochemical Zone has been smoothly progressing, achieving a milestone of over 40 million hours of safe working hours. Tan Ranke introduced that the project has invested over 30 billion yuan, and an additional 10 billion yuan will be invested this year for device debugging and trial operation. It is expected to start production by the end of the year. It is understood that the project has also driven multiple supporting projects with an investment of 15 billion yuan to settle in the local area. Tan Ranke expressed the hope that the project can promote high-quality investment in more local downstream industries.
In addition, ExxonMobil has invested in the construction of a new research and development center in Daya Bay, Huizhou. This research and development center will help promote the formation of an integrated system of industry, academia, research and application in the Greater Bay Area, and promote international technology exchange and cooperation. "The Huizhou Daya Bay R&D Center is the first comprehensive R&D center we have established outside of North America, equipped with pilot facilities, integrating product research and process development, to provide support for Guangdong's long-term sustainable development goals." Tan Ranke said.
Explore low-carbon solutions to help achieve the "dual carbon" goals
Low carbon energy supply is one of the key factors for Guangdong's future high-quality development, and it is becoming increasingly important for investors. Liquefied natural gas is the easiest low emission fuel to scale up.
"We are pleased to cooperate with Huizhou LNG receiving station to supply our liquefied natural gas to the Greater Bay Area and expand our local liquefied natural gas business," said Tan Ranke. For ExxonMobil, energy transformation can provide reliable and affordable energy while playing a leading role in reducing corporate greenhouse gas emissions.
Tan Ranke introduced that ExxonMobil is actively developing carbon emission technologies that can solve industries that are difficult to decarbonize, such as carbon capture and storage, low hydrocarbons and ammonia, and low emission fuels. It is exploring various potential low-carbon solutions with Chinese partners to help China achieve its "dual carbon" goals.
Tan Ranke stated that decarbonization is an important prerequisite for achieving high-quality development in the industry. Enterprises are collaborating with industry partners, Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and Huizhou Municipal Government to promote joint research on the Daya Bay CCUS cluster project, which provides important support for Guangdong Province and ExxonMobil to achieve long-term emission reduction goals.
