On September 29th, during the Global Intelligent Automotive Industry Conference, Li Tao, General Manager of Baidu Apollo's Intelligent Cockpit Business, said in an interview with media such as the Beijing News Beike Finance that "the big model is not in the future, but in the present.
In Li Tao's view, the overlap between the wave of automotive intelligence and the wave of big models is a historical inevitability. If we want to achieve the ultimate perception form of AI cars, we need to use powerful abilities such as logical reasoning, memory, and generation, which are precisely the areas where big models excel the most.
Beike Finance: You once said that 'intelligent cockpits will develop towards intelligent agents', what will this become?
Li Tao: In the process of cabin evolution, with the maturity of voice technology, people have grafted some voice capabilities into the cabin to improve the efficiency and convenience of user operation, and to integrate some functions. But in reality, such a cockpit is difficult to understand and meet the deepest needs of users. I think the previous idea of simply grafting some abilities into the cockpit may need to be changed. We are now more focused on forward design based on large models, rather than constantly cutting and integrating this technology into them bit by bit.
The ultimate form of the cockpit will be a vehicle end intelligent agent, with its own understanding, cognition, learning ability, and the ability to automatically provide users with situational awareness and services.
Beike Finance: Large models of intelligent cockpits are a hot topic, but large-scale commercial use has not yet been achieved, only at the display level. When do you expect the large-scale deployment of the large model to be realized?
Li Tao: I think the big model getting on the car is not in the future tense, but in the present continuous tense. The Jiyue 01 is fully equipped with large models. In addition, we have upgraded Baidu's smart cockpit as a whole brand to Apollo super cockpit. The sixth generation of Baidu Apollo Go unmanned car will soon be equipped with super cockpit intelligent agents. On this car, you can see the whole new experience of automatic welcome and automatic car control driven by the big model and caring for different people.
