Charlie Munger's Life
According to public information, Charlie Munger was born in Omaha, Nebraska, USA in 1924. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1948 and then went straight to California court as a lawyer. He began investing in securities and collaborating with friends and clients in business activities, some of which have been included in graduate courses at business schools.
After a successful buyout, Munger gradually realized the huge profit potential of acquiring high-quality enterprises. "The difference between a well qualified enterprise and a struggling enterprise is that the former makes easy decisions one after another, while the latter often encounters painful choices." Munger then began to venture into real estate investment and earned his first million dollars in life in a project called the "Autonomous Community Project.
Since 1978, Charlie Munger has served as the Vice Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. In March 2022, Charlie Munger will step down as chairman after working at Daily Journal for 45 years. Munger proposed to donate $1 million in stocks to the company and will continue to serve as a director. In May of the same year, Manger was appointed as the Vice Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway.
Charlie Munger and Buffett, as the "golden partners" in the investment field and their best friends in life, have publicly expressed their admiration for each other.
In 1977, Buffett recalled in an interview, "Our thoughts were so similar that it was chilling." "He was the smartest and most outstanding person I ever met."
Charlie Munger also attributed the achievements of Berkshire's stock market to Buffett in an interview, stating, "Throughout his nearly 50 year investment journey, he has consistently demonstrated exceptional intelligence and a youthful and growing vitality."
Buffett has also talked several times about Charlie Munger's inspiration for him in the investment field. He said, "Charlie pushed me in a different direction than Graham, who only suggested buying cheap goods. This is the power of his thinking, and he has expanded my horizons. I have evolved from chimpanzees to humans at an extraordinary speed, otherwise I would have been much poorer."
Charlie Munger also acknowledges that he shares a common value orientation with Buffett. "We all dislike the kind of unforeseeable promises. We need time to sit down and think seriously, read relevant materials, which is different from most people in this industry. We like this kind of 'quirky', in fact, it brings considerable returns."
In the past forty years, Charlie Munger and Buffett have teamed up to create the best investment record ever - Berkshire's stock book value has created an investment myth with a compound annual return of 20.3%, and the stock price per share has risen from $19 to $84487.
