US Department of Homeland Security Raid
According to the latest news from WDTN, a television station under the National Broadcasting Corporation, and Dayton Daily News, a local media outlet in Dayton, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, conducted an investigation into Fuyao Glass USA in Moline on Friday local time and raided multiple residences in the Dayton area.
According to reports, Acting Special Agent Murphy, responsible for investigating crimes in Ohio and Michigan, stated that investigators arrived in the Dayton area and executed 28 federal search warrants in multiple cities. Our investigation focuses on financial crimes, money laundering, labor exploitation, and potential human smuggling violations, "Murphy said." Currently, law enforcement agencies are working hard to find victims, provide them with services, and collect evidence related to the investigation.
The report also mentioned that Murphy called on the public to avoid law enforcement areas in a statement and urged those who know about the investigation to provide relevant information to law enforcement agencies.
According to the aforementioned media reports, in a recording taken inside the Fuyao factory and posted on Facebook, a Homeland Security agent told Fuyao workers that the company is not currently under investigation and has no intention of arresting anyone at the factory on Friday. We just need to talk to everyone, understand what they saw, what happened, and what they know. We apologize for disturbing your work. You may just want to finish work quickly. We understand. We will complete this task as soon as possible
According to Global Times, Fuyao Glass USA has issued a statement to WDTN regarding the investigation, stating that "federal government officials and local law enforcement personnel visited Fuyao Glass USA on the same day, and the company fully cooperated with the investigation." As a result, some of our operations for the first and second shifts have been suspended. Production for the third shift has resumed, and we believe that our production and delivery will not be affected.
The documentary behind the scenes story of entering the US market has won awards
Miami Republican State Senator Niraj Antani issued a statement on social media X: "I am deeply concerned about today's actions by federal law enforcement against Fuyao. Before I was elected, Ohio provided Fuyao with millions of dollars in rewards through JobsOhio because they knew it would create job opportunities for the United States. I look forward to learning more about today's situation
In 2014, China Fuyao Group acquired a partial stake in General Motors' closed factory in Molin and transformed it into what the company called the world's largest automotive glass production base. Later, based on this, the documentary "American Factory" produced by Netflix won the Best Documentary Award at the 92nd Academy Awards.
The film is invested and produced by the Obama couple, telling the behind the scenes story of Chinese automotive glass king Cao Dewang's entry into the US market. The film is set against the backdrop of the collapse of General Motors' Dayton factory in Ohio after the US financial crisis, plunging the entire community into depression. It tells the story of China Fuyao Glass Group, which takes over an abandoned General Motors factory in Ohio, converts it into a glass production factory, and hires thousands of blue collar American employees.
