On June 25th, the RoboTest unmanned vehicle intelligent testing platform (hereinafter referred to as the RoboTest platform) of SAIC General Motors was first publicly released. This is the only robot testing system independently developed by automotive companies and applied to the entire vehicle testing and certification process among domestic and foreign OEMs. It can replace humans to test vehicles and has entered a mature and systematic application stage.
The RoboTest platform has been used in the entire vehicle testing and certification process of SAIC General Motors since 2020. The entire system consists of two core parts: vehicle end and cloud end. Among them, the vehicle end controller integrates the driving robot system, positioning perception equipment, and control module. Through lightweight, standardized, and modular design, it can be quickly disassembled and assembled without damaging the original structure of the vehicle; The cloud control center is responsible for remote configuration, real-time monitoring and management of test specifications and test paths, as well as wireless transmission and analysis of test data, to ensure efficient and accurate testing.
Chu Weiping, Senior Manager of Vehicle Certification and Trial Production at SAIC General Motors Pan Asia Automotive Technology Center, emphasized, "RoboTest is the intelligence in the development and testing certification process before the product is launched, and intelligent assisted driving is the intelligent function after its launch."
At present, the RoboTest platform has been widely used in multiple test benches and road test sites at the Pan Asian Automotive Technology Center, including durability, noise, emissions, thermodynamics, and performance test benches, as well as road tests on Belgian roads, stable roads (G0 level), and hazardous projects, as well as various road tests below 85km/h on Belgian roads, stable roads (G0 level), and hazardous projects, demonstrating strong applicability and reliability.
The high usability design of the RoboTest platform can not only adapt to 100% of SAIC GM's models, but also meet the testing needs of most friendly car models. As of now, the mileage of durability bench tests alone has reached 1.5 million kilometers. The RoboTest platform has also been recognized by professional institutions in the industry - the China Automotive Technology Research Center and the Shanghai Motor Vehicle Testing and Certification Technology Research Center will collaborate with Pan Asia to study the use of the RoboTest platform for vehicle testing and inspection work.
From a technical perspective, due to the use of a robot system on the RoboTest platform, it has the characteristics of high precision and strong durability compared to traditional human driving, which can significantly improve the quality of testing and verification efficiency. For example, in tests such as endurance, hub durability, and constant throttle, the RoboTest platform eliminates the influence of human factors and equipment errors, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the test; The application of robots greatly enhances the safety of the testing process in dangerous test conditions such as airbag calibration; At the same time, the RoboTest platform can also digitize the vehicle testing specifications, which can not only be input to robots for use, but also serve as a "digital testing assistant" to assist manual testing, improving the accuracy and efficiency of manual testing.
The person in charge of SAIC General Motors stated that the significance of launching this platform is that through the RoboTest unmanned vehicle intelligent testing platform, it can achieve comprehensive and multi angle testing of cars, improve testing efficiency and accuracy. At the same time, the application of this platform will also help shorten the automotive research and development cycle and accelerate the speed of new product launch.
