From 2014 to 2021/2022, Cambodia's multidimensional poverty index decreased from 0.168 to 0.070, and the poverty rate decreased from 36.7% to 16.6%.

The United Nations Development Programme in Cambodia stated that this means that in the past seven and a half years, one out of every five Cambodians has been lifted out of poverty. Broadly speaking, it is equivalent to a decrease in the number of impoverished people in Cambodia from 5.6 million to 2.8 million.
